A good equipment evaluator will consider all aspects of an asset when establishing a value, including how clean it is and how well it's been cared for. A little work ahead of time can make a big difference in getting the best valuation for used equipment. Listen to Bill Albaugh's thoughts on whether or not equipment should be prepared by the owner before an evaluation is performed.
Well, that's a tough question. Because, in some instances, depending upon who's evaluating the equipment, they should — really should — take that into consideration. But there are other people that evaluate the used equipment and they don't even care. They don't even check it. They just put a number on it and move on. From an integrity stand point, I truly believe that you should put your best foot forward. If you stop and think about when you take your car in to an automobile dealership to take it in on trade, you know how many people go out and wash and wax it and vacuum it out and clean the windows and stuff because they want the top dollar for their car trade or their pickup trade when they take it to an auto dealership. I think agricultural equipment or construction equipment should be the same way. Make sure that the cabs are cleaned up, the glass is clean, that the equipment stands up right to get your top dollar. And, if you have service records, divulge those because those all should take into consideration when you're evaluating equipment.
